Tribulus and Horny Goat Weed in Jellyfil: What Studies Show

Quick answer

Tribulus does not raise testosterone in human trials, and its libido results are mixed. Horny goat weed has no human trials for sexual function, and it carries heart-rhythm cautions. Some horny goat weed products were found with hidden ED drugs. Jellyfil lists both in an 82 mg blend of nine ingredients, with amounts not published.

The basics

What are tribulus and horny goat weed, and why are they in Jellyfil?

Two famous names in men's supplements, with thin human evidence.

A pile of dried green herb leaves on a wooden table
Dried herb leaves like these are typical of both plants. Horny goat weed products use the leaves; tribulus products often use the fruit or aerial parts.

Tribulus terrestris is a low, spiny plant found in warm, dry places around the world. It is sold as a "testosterone booster" in many gym supplements.

Horny goat weed is the common name for Epimedium, a leafy plant from China. Its best-known compound is icariin.

Both have long histories as "male" herbs in traditional use. Jellyfil lists both in its 82 mg blend. The label does not give their amounts, extract strength or icariin content.

Does tribulus increase testosterone? What human trials show

A review of 11 studies says tribulus alone does not raise it.

No. A 2014 systematic review looked at 11 studies, including human trials in healthy people (Qureshi et al., 2014). Testosterone went up only when tribulus was one part of a combined supplement. On its own, it did not raise testosterone.

The authors wrote that evidence suggests tribulus is "ineffective for increasing testosterone levels in humans." Animal results did not carry over to people.

Tribulus and testosterone: the two main sources

SourceWhat it looked atWhat it found
Qureshi et al., 201411 studies, human and animalNo testosterone rise in humans from tribulus alone
OPSS Tribulus, 2024Clinical trials in men, safety reportsMixed results; "no strong evidence supports the marketed claims"

This matters for Jellyfil. A brand graphic uses the words "healthy testosterone." The label has no testosterone figure, and the best-known testosterone herb in the blend does not raise it in human trials. We will not repeat that claim.

Libido

Does tribulus work for libido and desire?

Mixed trials, small effects, varied products.

The honest answer is maybe, a little, in some studies. Clinical trials in men show mixed results (OPSS Tribulus, 2024). Some small trials report better desire scores, while others find no difference from placebo.

Mixed results usually mean one of three things: the effect is small, the products differ a lot, or the trials are too small to tell. With tribulus, all three apply.

Dose check

How much tribulus per day for testosterone, and how much is in Jellyfil?

No proven dose, and the blend is small.

There is no proven daily amount, because tribulus has not been shown to raise testosterone in people. Many gym products sell 1,000 mg capsules. Sleep problems, fatigue and a faster heart rate have been reported above 1,000 mg a day.

82 mgwhole blend÷ 9ingredients≈ 9 mgaverage share

Jellyfil has a small blend, so its tribulus is far below the amounts linked to side effects. It is also far below the amounts used in trials. The real split of the blend is not published.

Horny goat weed

Does horny goat weed work? Icariin and the evidence gap

Popular name, no human trials for sexual function.

We do not know, because it has not been tested in men. Memorial Sloan Kettering states there are no human trials of horny goat weed for sexual dysfunction (MSKCC Epimedium, 2023). Operation Supplement Safety also notes a lack of human research for sexual-health or performance claims (OPSS, Horny goat weed, 2024).

Icariin is the compound most studied in lab and animal work. Lab results are a starting point for research, not proof that a supplement helps people. The amount of icariin in any product also varies a lot, and the label does not state it.

  • Horny goat weed is Epimedium leaf.
  • Icariin is its best-known compound.
  • Lab and animal work exist.
  • Human trials for sexual function.
  • A studied human dose.
  • The icariin content in Jellyfil.
  • Heart rhythm effects.
  • Interactions with some medicines.
  • Products found with hidden ED drugs.
Safety

Horny goat weed side effects and cautions

Heart effects come first on the list.

Reported effects include a rapid or irregular heartbeat, chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, sweating, mood changes and stomach upset (OPSS, Horny goat weed, 2024). MSKCC advises avoiding it with heart disease and hormone-sensitive cancers (MSKCC Epimedium, 2023).

"Healthy testosterone": checking the Jellyfil graphic against the evidence

Four checks, one honest conclusion.

A brand graphic says the formula supports "healthy testosterone." Here is how each ingredient that people link to testosterone holds up.

  • Tribulus: does not raise testosterone in human trialsNot shown
  • Horny goat weed: no human data on testosteroneNo data
  • Ashwagandha: one small trial showed a lab rise, no felt changeEarly
  • Jellyfil label: prints no testosterone figure or claimNot on label

So the graphic goes further than the evidence. Jellyfil is a dietary supplement, not a testosterone treatment. *These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Low T basics

Think your testosterone is low? What actually tells you

Four steps, and no supplement in the middle.

Only a blood test can tell you. Low testosterone is diagnosed with at least two early-morning blood tests plus symptoms (Endocrine Society, 2022). Tiredness or low desire can also come from blood pressure, diabetes, medicines, thyroid problems or depression (MedlinePlus, 2025).

  1. 1

    Notice the pattern

Low desire, fatigue or low mood that lasts for weeks.

  2. 2

    Book a check-up

Tell your doctor what you have noticed and what you take.

  3. 3

    Morning blood tests

At least two tests between 7 and 10 AM. Normal adult levels are roughly 300 to 1,000 ng/dL.

  4. 4

    Treat the cause

If testosterone is truly low, the main treatment is prescription therapy.

Levels fall about 1% a year after age 30. That slow drift is normal and is different from a medical deficiency.

Verdict

Our honest take on tribulus and horny goat weed in Jellyfil

Famous names, thin evidence, small amounts.

In their favor

  • Both have long traditional use
  • Tiny amounts sit far below side-effect levels
  • Listed openly on the label

Keep in mind

  • Tribulus does not raise testosterone in humans
  • Horny goat weed has no human trials for sexual function
  • Amounts and icariin content are not published

These two are the weakest-evidence parts of the formula. If testosterone is your main concern, see a doctor. If you want a gentle daily routine and the cautions above do not apply, compare all nine ingredients on the Jellyfil ingredients page.

FAQ

Tribulus and horny goat weed questions

Does tribulus increase testosterone?

Not in human trials. A systematic review concluded that "evidence to date suggests that TT is ineffective for increasing testosterone levels in humans" (Qureshi et al., 2014). Testosterone rose only when tribulus was mixed with other ingredients.

Does tribulus terrestris work?

The evidence is weak. Trials in men show mixed results, and Operation Supplement Safety says "no strong evidence supports the marketed claims" (OPSS Tribulus, 2024). Most studies were short, up to about 3 months.

Does tribulus increase libido?

Some small trials report better desire scores and others do not. The results are mixed, so there is no reliable answer yet. A sudden drop in desire is also worth mentioning to a doctor, since it can have medical causes.

How much tribulus per day for testosterone?

There is no proven dose, because tribulus has not been shown to raise testosterone in humans. Sleep problems, fatigue and a faster heart rate have been reported above 1,000 mg a day. Jellyfil's whole nine-ingredient blend is 82 mg.

Does tribulus raise blood pressure?

Our sources do not list high blood pressure as a known effect. They do report a faster heart rate above 1,000 mg a day. If you have heart or blood pressure problems, ask your doctor before using tribulus products.

Does horny goat weed work?

There are no human trials of horny goat weed for sexual function (MSKCC Epimedium, 2023). Most of what you read online comes from lab and animal work on its compound icariin. That does not show it works in men.

Does horny goat weed increase testosterone?

There is no human data to support that. No trial in men has shown a testosterone rise from horny goat weed. Treat any testosterone claim for it as unproven.

What are horny goat weed side effects?

Reported effects include a rapid or irregular heartbeat, chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, sweating, mood changes and stomach upset (OPSS, Horny goat weed, 2024). People with heart disease should avoid it.

Are horny goat weed gummies safe?

It depends on the product and on you. FDA has found some horny goat weed products with hidden ED drugs such as tadalafil and sildenafil. Buy only from a known seller, and ask your doctor first if you have heart disease or take nitrates.

How much horny goat weed is in Jellyfil?

The amount is not published, and the icariin content is not stated. It is one of nine ingredients that share an 82 mg blend, about 9 mg each on average.
