Ashwagandha in Jellyfil: Stress, Sleep, Hormones and Safety

Quick answer

Ashwagandha is a stress-and-sleep herb. Many trials used 300 to 600 mg a day. In one 8-week trial of 57 men, testosterone rose 14.7% more than placebo, but energy and sexual well-being did not. Jellyfil lists it in an 82 mg blend, so its share is far smaller. Rare liver injury and thyroid effects are reported.

The basics

What is ashwagandha, and why is it in Jellyfil?

A traditional stress herb with a modern men's-health angle.

Ashwagandha plants with red berries
Ashwagandha is a small shrub with red berries. Supplements use extracts of the root or leaf.

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is a shrub used for centuries in Ayurveda, the traditional medicine of India. Today it is one of the most popular herbs for stress and sleep.

Supplement companies also add it to men's products because of a few small testosterone studies. Jellyfil lists ashwagandha as one of the nine ingredients in its 82 mg blend.

The label does not say which part of the plant is used or how strong the extract is. Many studied extracts are standardized to compounds called withanolides.

Ashwagandha for men benefits: what does the research look at?

Stress first, sleep second, hormones a distant third.

Most ashwagandha trials study stress, anxiety and sleep. The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements fact sheet reviews these trials. Most were small and lasted 30 to 90 days (NIH ODS Ashwagandha, 2025).

Stress is the most studied use. Trials gave 225 to 1,250 mg of extract a day for 30 to 90 days and measured stress scores and sometimes cortisol, the main stress hormone. Several reported lower stress scores than placebo.

Think of the everyday version: feeling wound up after work and not able to switch off.

Some trials measured how fast people fell asleep and how rested they felt. The name somnifera even means sleep-inducing in Latin.

Better sleep matters for men's health in general. Poor sleep is linked to low energy and low interest in sex.

A few small trials measured hormones. The best known in older men is a 2019 study described in the next section (Lopresti et al., 2019). Results are early and need larger trials.

Jellyfil makes no testosterone claim, and we do not either.

The Jellyfil sales page talks about libido, stamina and confidence. Those are the brand's words. They are not label claims, and no study has tested this formula. *These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. Testosterone

Does ashwagandha increase testosterone? The small studies

A lab change in one small trial, without a felt change.

It might, slightly, in some men. The 2019 trial by Lopresti and colleagues gave 57 overweight men aged 40 to 70 either ashwagandha or placebo for 8 weeks each (Lopresti et al., 2019).

A lab number can move without a man feeling different. That is what happened here. If you think your testosterone is low, a blood test is the only way to know.

Low testosterone is diagnosed with at least two early-morning blood tests plus symptoms, and the main treatment is prescription therapy (Endocrine Society, 2022).

Dose check

How much ashwagandha is in Jellyfil compared with studies?

The label lists it. The amount is the missing piece.

Jellyfil does not publish its ashwagandha amount. The whole blend is 82 mg and holds nine ingredients, so a fair estimate is an average of about 9 mg each.

82 mgwhole blend÷ 9ingredients≈ 9 mgaverage share

Ashwagandha in milligrams: Jellyfil blend versus common trial doses (bar = share of 600 mg)

Average share in the blendabout 9 mgcalculated, real split not published
Whole blend, all nine ingredients82 mglabel
Low end of common trial doses300 mgmany stress trials
High end of common trial doses600 mgmany stress trials

Even if all 82 mg were ashwagandha, it would be about 14% of a 600 mg dose. The real share is smaller. We share this math so you can judge the product fairly, not to talk you out of it.

The full label is on the Supplement Facts page, and our ingredients overview compares all nine.

Interactions

Ashwagandha and the thyroid: who should ask a doctor first?

Six situations where a quick check makes sense.

Ashwagandha can affect thyroid hormone levels. LiverTox also describes a case of thyrotoxicosis, an overactive thyroid, linked to ashwagandha.

It may also interact with several kinds of medicine (NIH ODS Ashwagandha, 2025). If you are on any of these, show your pharmacist the Jellyfil label before you start.

The bigger picture

Stress, sleep and libido: where ashwagandha fits in Jellyfil

The herb studied for stress works best next to the basics.

Stress and poor sleep are common reasons men lose interest in sex. That part is everyday experience, and doctors ask about both. Herbs aside, a few habits help the most.

Sleep 7 to 9 hours

Regular sleep supports energy, mood and hormones.

Move most days

Walking or lifting helps stress and blood vessels.

Ease off alcohol

Heavy drinking is a known cause of ED.

Talk to someone

Stress, worry and low mood are real medical topics.

A daily gummy can sit beside those habits. It cannot replace them. Our men’s sexual health guide covers each habit in more depth.

Verdict

Our honest take on ashwagandha in Jellyfil

Good herb, small amount, clear cautions.

In its favor

  • Well studied for stress and sleep compared with most herbs
  • One small trial showed a testosterone rise in older men
  • Usually well tolerated in short-term use

Keep in mind

  • Amount per gummy is not published
  • The blend is far below common trial doses
  • Rare liver injury and thyroid effects are reported

Ashwagandha is one of the better-researched herbs in the blend, but its research was done at hundreds of milligrams. Treat it as a small supporting part of a daily routine. If you take thyroid medicine or have liver disease, ask first. Then read our how to take Jellyfil guide.

FAQ

Ashwagandha and Jellyfil questions

What are the benefits of ashwagandha for men?

The main research area is stress and sleep, with some small studies on testosterone. In one 8-week trial of 57 men aged 40 to 70, testosterone rose 14.7% more than placebo, but energy and sexual well-being did not improve more than placebo (Lopresti et al., 2019). Larger studies are still needed.

Does ashwagandha increase testosterone?

It might, a little. The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements says ashwagandha "might also increase testosterone levels" (NIH ODS Ashwagandha, 2025). The studies are small and short, and Jellyfil does not claim to raise testosterone.

What is the ashwagandha for men dosage in studies?

Many trials used 300 to 600 mg of extract a day. Stress trials overall ranged from 225 to 1,250 mg a day for 30 to 90 days. Products are often 150 to 600 mg per capsule.

How much ashwagandha is in Jellyfil?

The amount is not published. Ashwagandha is one of nine ingredients in an 82 mg blend, so the average share is about 9 mg. That is far below the 300 to 600 mg used in many trials.

What are the side effects of ashwagandha for men?

Most people tolerate it for up to about 3 months. Mild stomach upset and drowsiness are the usual complaints. Rare liver injury has been reported, usually 2 to 12 weeks after starting (LiverTox, Ashwagandha, 2024).

Can ashwagandha damage your liver?

In rare cases, yes. LiverTox rates ashwagandha a likely cause of liver injury. Most cases got better within 1 to 4 months of stopping, but rare severe cases have happened. Stop and call a doctor if you notice yellow skin or eyes, dark urine or itching.

Does ashwagandha affect the thyroid?

It can. Thyroid effects have been reported, including one case of an overactive thyroid. If you take thyroid medicine or have a thyroid condition, ask your doctor before using any ashwagandha product.

Is ashwagandha good for men's fertility?

The evidence is too thin to say. The fertility research on ashwagandha is small, and none of it tested Jellyfil. If you are trying to conceive and having trouble, a doctor can order the right tests.

Who should not take ashwagandha?

Men on thyroid, diabetes, blood pressure, immune-suppressing or sedative medicines should ask first. Some experts advise men with hormone-sensitive prostate cancer to avoid it. Anyone with liver disease should also check with a doctor.
